Bonham, Texas -- Graveside services for Mavis Lorene McKinney, 92, of Pottsboro, Texas, formerly of Bonham, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 in Duplex Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home.  Pastor Lee Jackson will officiate.  The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from noon till service time Saturday.  Mavis passed away Friday night, January 27, 2023 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.

Mavis was born May 17, 1930 in Bonham, Texas, the daughter of Homer Forrest Rice and Lela Mae Atkins Rice.  She attended Bonham schools.  Mavis married Albert Wilton McKinney in Durant, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death January 24, 1962.  She was a tech at Texas Instruments for many years before retiring. 

Mavis considered it a great joy to write long letters to family and friends and was affectionately known for her lengthy phone conversations.  She took art lessons and enjoyed oil painting.  Mavis was a member of Missionary Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas.  She lived in Lake Dallas for many years until declining health sent her to live with her daughter, Sharon, in Pottsboro, Texas.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Richard Rice, Louis D. Rice, and George Ray Rice, two sisters, Melba Jean Brockett and Billie Morris and a beloved granddaughter, Tamara Sanders Turner.

Mavis leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Donald Ray McKinney (Carol) of Highland Village, Texas, Albert Spiller (Gilda) of Bells, Texas, and Alan McKinney (Sandy) of Little Elm, Texas; three daughters, Jean Kay Sanders (Hershell) of Weatherford, Texas, Sandra “Sandy” Hudson of Whitewright, Texas, and Sharon Etter of Pottsboro, Texas; 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
