Bonham, Texas -- The Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site will be having a party on Saturday, January 6, 2024, to honor Sam “Mr. Sam” Rayburn on what would have been his 142nd birthday. Mr. Sam spent many birthdays in Washington, D.C., because of the congressional session schedule, but now we get to celebrate his birthday at his historic home with the citizens of the 4th Congressional District that Mr. Sam loved so much.

From 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. that day, join us for fun games, activities, first floor self-guided tours of Mr. Sam’s home, and cake all for free! Everyone is welcome to join us to celebrate the man who helped create farm-to-market roads, provide electricity to people living in the countryside, and loved eating onions. Only the first floor of the Rayburn House will be open for tours during Mr. Sam’s birthday celebration.

If you can’t make it on January 6, you can still join us for some games on Saturday, January 13, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. The Rayburns enjoyed playing the game of dominoes, so we will dedicate one Saturday afternoon to teach a different kind of domino game in January, March, May, July, and September with a tournament on November 16! Visit our website, Facebook, or Instagram to keep up with our event dates, or look for our flyers around Bonham.

The Sam Rayburn House is located at 890 W. State Hwy 56 in Bonham, TX. Contact us at (903) 583-5558 or email us at Margo.McCutcheon@thc.texas.gov for information about this event, how to take a tour of the Rayburn House, or any other questions you might have.
