Honey Grove, Texas -- Roy Newman Perry, 88, of Windom, TX passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 starting at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services starting at 2:00 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove, TX. Rev. David Coats will officiate. Interment will follow at Windom Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be family.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be H.B. Sadler, Don Manhart, Bob Milford, Milton Robinson, and Wiley Grissom.

Roy was born on May 13, 1935 in Windom, TX to Newman Travis and Christene Elizabeth (Woodard) Perry. Roy graduated from Windom High School in 1953 and married Dorris Jean (Allen) Perry on September 29, 1956 in Paris, TX. He and Dorris moved from Windom to Fort Worth to begin his career and start a family. Roy attended East Texas University, earning a B.S. in Secondary Education, and he also attended North Texas State University earning a Master of Education in Counseling Degree.

Within Roy’s career he worked 39 years for Fort Worth Independent School District at Stripling Middle School teaching Industrial Arts, Eastern Hills High School teaching Geometry, and over 25 years as a counselor at Southwest High School.

Roy worked part time with Leonards Department Store for 18 years as a bank teller.  He was very proud of continuing the legacy of ranching and farming at the Perry Ranch founded in 1858. Roy always enjoyed meeting his close friends every day for morning coffee and eating lunch at the Windom SNAP center. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Roy is survived by beloved wife of 67 years Dorris Perry; children Rhonda and Richard Aubuchon, Randal Perry, and Robin and Christian Metten; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Roy is preceded in death by son Ricky Newman Perry, sister Mary Helen Butler, and parents Newman and Christene Perry.
