Bonham, Texas -- Willow Wild Cemetery will be celebrating Great Days of Service and hosting its Annual Meeting on October 26. Starting around 9:00 a.m., volunteers can begin to assemble at the cemetery. This year, in addition to the usual cleaning of graves and trash removal, we are starting a new tradition of decorating the cemetery for fall! Those who would like may adorn their families’ resting places with Thanksgiving-themed flowers and other memorabilia.
These can be left in place until the week after Thanksgiving. We ask that precious keepsakes or otherwise valuable items not be left in the cemetery, as we cannot guarantee their safe return.
For those who choose not to decorate, there will be opportunities to collect trash and sweep stones. Volunteers should bring brooms and rakes if they can.
Also, while supplies last, families will have a chance to learn about cleaning headstones! This is a demonstration that is safe and fun for all ages. Safety glasses and gloves are helpful in the process but are not necessary.
Staff will be there through noon.
Later that day, beginning at 4:00 p.m., there will be an annual meeting where you can meet the new board and hear the plans for the future. High on our priority list will be developing volunteer lists for cleanup, mowing, headstone maintenance, holiday planning and fundraising. We will share problems and accomplishments and honor our volunteers.
We will meet at the Pavilion. Please bring lawn chairs in case we do not have enough seating. If it’s cool outside, you might bring a Thermos of hot chocolate!
The new Board is excited for everyone to see the changes in the cemetery! It is truly a beautiful and serene place to honor our loved ones, their families and our community.
