Only interred female military veteran in Sunnyside Cemetery to be honored Nov. 9

Savoy, Texas -- We are excited at the opportunity to honor and pay tribute to the only interred female military veteran in Sunnyside Cemetery, Fannin County, Savoy, Texas. https://www.sunnysidecemeteryassoc.com/home

A special ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, starting at 11:00 a.m. with a potluck lunch following, to honor Staff Sergeant Eula Sturdivant Phillips, United States Army Air Force, World War II. Please note that This ceremony is scheduled to start after the cemetery workday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Eula was born on April 16, 1917 and died on November 16, 2007. On November 2, 1942, at the age of 25, she enlisted in the Women’s Air Corps. Eula’s honorable legacy lives on in all who knew her. Her service to her
country and helping break down barriers for today’s women is without mention one of the greatest gifts one can give to their fellow man and woman.

1Lt. Billy G. Teague, Sr., veteran of the Marine Corps Reserve, U.S. Army, TXARNG, TXSG/Texas Medical Brigade, American Legion Post 29 Chaplain and Texoma Hero, will be guest speaker and will present Staff Sergeant Phillips’ next of kin with an American flag. A 5’x8’ American flag will be presented to the Sunnyside Cemetery Association to be raised and flown in Honor of Eula and all interred veterans.
