Dodd City, Texas -- Nothing like peaking at the right time. With the playoffs looming ahead, the Dodd City Lady Hornets turned in one of their most impressive matches of the year in a five-set win over the hard-hitting Tioga Lady Bulldogs. The warm-up match was Dodd City's 25th win of the season against 11 losses.
In the opener, Tioga pulled away late for a 25-20 win.
The second set was a nail-biter with the teams all knotted up at 24-24 when Dodd City junior Addison Weeks put down a timely pair of kills to give the Lady Hornets an exciting 26-24 victory.
Dodd City kept the momentum and ran away with the third set, 25-13, only to watch Tioga battle back with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
A pair of aces by Dodd City freshman Gracyn Shindler helped Dodd City grab a quick 3-0 lead in the tiebreaker. Another ace, this time by Kayleigh McBrayer, and a pair of kills by Weeks gave Dodd City an 8-4 advantage. An ace by Adisen White stretch the lead to 9-4. Shindler slammed down three kills in the closing moments of a 15-8 win in the tiebreaker.
The Dodd City Lady Hornets, the top seed out of District 21-A, will enjoy a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
