Bonham, Texas -- The one and only Steven Earl Slayter passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024. He was born on September 17, 1960 in Harlingen, TX to Joe and Patsy Slayter.

To know Steve was to love him. He lived life on the loudest setting. He was known to sell ice to the local Eskimos. Steve never met a stranger and if you found yourself in a dire situation Steve was the man to call. He was always joking and had a wealth of knowledge. Sometimes useless, sometimes not depending on who you asked.

Steve's favorite meal was a sandwich and he was known to turn soup into sandwich form. Don't ask us how he acquired this fine skill but he managed to master it like a true artist. Who needed plates? Not Steve, he preferred the finer things in life like napkins and red solo cups.

Steve kept busy by riding motorcycles, listening to music, watching movies, and building Legos with his children. Steve once stole a train and took it for a joyride. This wise decision in his youth made him infamous and to this day the story lives on.

The family will celebrate his life just like Steve wanted it - with no frills. They will have a cold one in honor of their beloved dad, brother, and friend in a private service at the family home. They will serve up sandwiches and laughter while sharing memories about Steve.

To quote Steve's favorite movie, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...lived a one of a kind man named Steve."

He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Henry Slayter Sr. and stepfather, Kennith Floyd Shepard.

Those left to cherish his memory, mother, Patsy Fletcher, brothers, Joe Slayter (Shelia), David Slayter (Elaine), Kennith Shepard (Stacy), children, Adam Slayter (Samantha), Tamera Slayter (Mark), Devin Jones (Jackie), grandchildren, Phoenix, Donovan, Haden, Hazel, Aunica, Samaya, numerous nieces, nephews, and the many friends that he treated as family.
