Alicia's program will be of our Black community of Grayson County and how it flourished. So much of it was due to the leadership of a Black professional class that held college degrees and owned property. During that time they founded churches, established and attended schools, and instituted organizations. This contributed to the development of a thriving black professional community that until 1930 included only four physicians, a dentist, and a lawyer.
Just to name a few of her outstanding challenges, she is Secretary for La Familia, Austin College’s Hispanic student organization; social media manager for the Chess Club, a transfer student leader, and a part of Theta Sigma Chi. She is passionate about social justice and using history as a form of activism and advocacy.
Before attending Austin College, Alicia attended Lone Star College – Kingwood in Houston, TX, where she was a part of the Honors College and earned her Honors Associate of Arts.
