Cast selected for the 2013 Summer Musical
Book by Bob Martin & Don McKellar
Music & Lyrics by Lisa Lambert & Greg Morrison

Casting has concluded for Sherman Community Players' annual summer musical, The Drowsy Chaperone; nearly 40 residents of the Texoma Region came to the open auditions held in late April at the historic Finley Theater, and a cast of 20 was selected.

“Some really great talent showed up to the auditions," according to Artistic Director Anthony Nelson, "making the casting decisions very difficult. I hope, though, those who were not selected will come back next for next season’s audition.  We have a great year planned.”

Rounding out the cast for the hysterically funny “Chaperone” are: Darrah Dunn as the narrator, known as “Man in Chair,” Lisa Avila as “Mrs. Tottendale,” Gil Nelson as “Underling,” Aaron Adair as “Robert Martin” (The Groom), Blake Rice as “George” (the best man), Bill Wheeler as Broadway producer “Victor Feldzeig,” Allison Minton as the infamous “Janet Van de Graff,” Leanne Duigan as “Kitty” the show girl, Paul Jordan and Hunt Tooley as the would be Gangsters, Linda Lewis as the “Chaperone,” who is drowsy, Harris Tooley as the international lover of ladies “Aldopho,” and Lisa Hebert as “Trix” the Aviatrix.  Making up the ensemble for the show are Donna Champion-House, Sarah Whilhelm, Karen Tooley, Heidi Yoder, and Ray Jernigen.

The production team on the project is just as impressive, in terms of talent.  Fred Freeman returns as Musical Director of the show, along with Amy Wallace choreographing.  Pam Sanza, Deborah Barrax, and Sandy Daniels are serving as Stage Managers for the production and Tina Ross will be head costume designer.  The show is sponsored by Ameristate Bank.

The Drowsy Chaperone is an old fashioned new musical but plays more as a parody of American musical comedies of the 1920s.  The story centers on a middle-aged, anti-social musical theater lover as he listens to the record of this favorite musical hit of 1928, The Drowsy Chaperone.  As he plays the record, the play miraculously comes to life in his tiny loft apartment, as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors.

Tickets go on sale the first week of June, and the musical plays for the entire month.  Visit scptheater.org for details, also check out the Sherman Community Players Facebook page for all the latest news about the theater.
