Summer is almost here! The 90-degree days are returning and students will be out of school for the summer and looking for something to do with themselves. This is when you want to make plans to bring them to the library. There is a lot going on at the Van Alstyne Public Library this summer. Here are the details so you can mark your summer calendar.
Kids Programs (up to age 12)
Dig Into Reading register and get a log sheet starting June 10. Meet your reading goal, turn in your log sheet no later than August 21 and receive a prize package.
Weekly fun event on Mondays at 10:30am *except as noted*
June 10 - Summer Kickoff stories, crafts, VAPD and VAFD vehicles.
Registration begins for Dig Into Reading.
June 17 Lowes Build and Grow (space is limited. RSVP due by June 12)
June 24 Whats the Buzz on Bees?
July 1 Barnyard Friends

Aug 21 Last day to turn in Summer Reading Log
Teen Programs (ages 13-19)
Teen Reading Contest Register and start reading books borrowed from the librarys young adult collection (excluding Manga). The one who reads the most books wins a prize. Registration opens June 10. Contest ends August 22.
Movie Nights free movie and popcorn starting at 4:00pm on these dates:
June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 9
Adults (18 and over)
Blind Date with Book beginning June 10 check out a book from our special display of books in a plain brown wrapper. Read it and write a brief review on our entry form. Place the entry form in our box and well draw a name on August 22; the lucky winner gets dinner for two.
Computer Classes space is limited. Pre-registration required by calling 903-482-5991.

Family Event LOOK UP TO THE STARS 7:00PM, August 5
A program for all ages featuring award winning astrophysicist and former consultant to NASA, Kevin Manning. The program begins indoors then moves outdoors to look at the night sky through a power telescope.
