The historic Savoy Methodist Church, now being restored and renamed the “Savoy Sanctuary,” will be rededicated in a special interfaith ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.  A reception will follow at the Savoy Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.  All are welcome.

The church, located at the corner of Commerce and Fowler in Savoy, Texas, was built in 1878 and was one of the few structures to survive the tornado of 1880.

The church received a Texas historical marker on April 14, 1991 and was an active congregation until 1993.  The property was later transferred to the Savoy ISD.

In 2005, Nancy Savoy, the widow of a descendant of the town's founder, Col. William Savoy, donated $25,000 to Savoy ISD to remove the church's 1878 bell from the sagging structure and also to fund a $1000 annual scholarship for graduates of Savoy High School.  Nancy Savoy later bought the property itself and began the process of restoration.

Mrs. Savoy hopes the newly christened "Savoy Sanctuary” will be "everything God wants it to be - a core of hope, inspiration, growth, love, vitality for others in the area."  Future plans include its use for weddings, funerals and memorial services, Bible studies and family-friendly concerts. The planners also intend to incorporate the property as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
