A field review of the weed control demonstration put in by Brant Mettler, DOW Agro-Sciences and Randy Moore, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service will take place on June 19, 2013. Everyone will meet at the JCT of HWY 121 and County Line Road 635 (Fannin/Collin County Line) at 8:00 a.m. and will review the various herbicides and rates used to control the very invasive Scabiosa sp. or commonly called Devils Bit and various other broadleaf weeds.
Scabiosa or Devils Bit is a very aggressive, invasive broadleaf weed that now covers Collin, Fannin, Hunt and Grayson counties. It will crowd out grasses as it moves in. It is distinguished by the small bluish flower at terminal ends. The plant is 2-3 feet tall with most leaves at the base. It is in bloom from May to June. Normally when you see small patches of it one year, the whole field will be covered two to three years later.

No RSVP is required. This will be a short but very informative look (SHOW & TELL) at some herbicides that control various weeds in this north Texas area. Parking will be along side of County Road 635 off HWY 121, which is the East Side of the road. You will see all the signs in the pasture that mark the herbicide plots. Field visit will last about 2 hours (8-10am) or until everyone has got their questions answered.
