Patsy Ramsey Smith

Anna, Texas -- Patsy Ramsey Smith, 82, died after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Baylor Hospital in McKinney, Texas. She was born on January 19, 1932, in Hugo, Oklahoma.  Pat was soon adopted by her aunt and uncle Myrtle Alice and Ernest Jackson Ramsey.  They lived in Durant, Oklahoma, where she went to elementary and high school. 

While in high school, Pat played the clarinet in the Durant High School Band.  She was also nominated and crowned homecoming queen on November 3, 1948.  On October 8, 1954, Pat eloped to marry Julian Marion Smith, Jr. at the First Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma.  They honeymooned at the State Fair of Texas and returned each year during their 60-year marriage until this year due to her declining health. 

Pat worked as a telephone operator and service assistant for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company many years in Durant, Amarillo, and Dallas.  She then became a homemaker, during which time she worked part-time at the State Fair of Texas in the Livestock Publicity Office, as executive secretary of Alpha Industry Steel Manufacturing in Anna, Texas, and devoted her time to her three children Kim, Kelly, and Bart. 

After living approximately 17 years in the Dallas area, Pat and Smitty, bought some land in Anna, Texas, where their home, The Lazy Diamond S, presently exists.  Pat loved her wonderful home and the many Anna residents who have over the years been such special friends to the whole family. 

Patsy Ramsey Smith is survived by her husband Julian Marion Smith, Jr., her daughter Kim Peat and her children Brett, Ramsey, Katy, and Barton of Anna, Texas, her daughter Kelly and Dan Winn and their daughter  McKayla of Keller, Texas, her son Bart Smith of McKinney, Texas, and her brother Robert (Pop) Cearley of Longview, Texas.  Pat always had a special place in her heart for all animals.  She is also survived by her wonderful Boston Terrier, Button, yellow Lab, Jake, and all of her donkey friends.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas, internment at 2:00 p.m. in Kingston, Oklahoma, with a viewing scheduled Monday, November 24, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Memorial donations may be made in Patsy Ramsey Smith’s name to:  Alzheimer's Association Greater Dallas Chapter, P.O.
