Rev. Thomas Squiers to speak at Red River Unitarian Universalist Church

Denison -- The lay-led congregation at Red River Unitarian Universalist Church have invited the Rev. Thomas Squiers to speak at this Sunday’s 11:15 a.m. Morning Assembly.  His remarks, “Letting Go: Steps to Wholeness” will explore ways people can declutter their spiritual life, within a Unitarian Universalist context, in order to experience a path to wholeness. This will include techniques across the spiritual spectrum - Humanist, Christian, Jewish, etc. - that people can appreciate.

Squiers is a former Catholic priest who became a Unitarian Universalist in his first year of seminary. He resigned from the priesthood four years after his ordination and joined his local Unitarian Universalist congregation. He is a member of Pathways UU Church in Hurst and was an off-site delegate to last month’s General Assembly in New Orleans.  He lives in Fort Worth with his spouse Jason and three very spoiled cats.

On Wednesday evening the church’s Green Team will meet in the Emerson Room at 7 pm to outline a 2017-2018 strategy for prioritizing projects aimed at making the church campus more Green.  Projects such as enhancing current recycling programs; installing rain barrels  and fulfilling the criteria for their building to become LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified.

On Thursday the Church’s Shelter Team will prepare and deliver supper to the residents and staff at the Grayson County Shelter.  The congregation participates in the area-wide coalition of churches that each prepare a shelter meal once a quarter.
