Bonham, Texas -- Mary Lavell (Hawkins) Blackshear went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2023 at the age of 93. She was born June 30, 1930 to Luie (Duke) and Varna Sangster in Belton, TX.

Her parents, Luie (Duke) Sangster (born in Telephone, Texas) died September 15, 1991, Varna Bell Sangster (born in McNab, Arkansas) died January 9, 2006.

She married Jim Bob Hawkins on December 14, 1946 in Bonham, Texas. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before he passed away on May 26, 2005. She married Charles Blackshear on December 30, 2006 in Tigertown, Texas. They were together until his passing on July 16, 2015.

Lavell was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great- grandmother. Lavell loved everybody and everybody loved her. She had a kind and generous heart, and it showed in her actions and deeds. She had a deep love for all of her family and enjoyed every moment she spent with them.

Lavell worked at Telephone lunchroom, DeRose, Bonham Mfg., and SuperSack. She retired on June 26, 1992 to help take care of her elderly mom (Varna). Lavell
ended up being a caretaker for several family members throughout her years.

She got pleasure from working outside in the yard and in her garden when she was able. She enjoyed planting, picking, canning, and preserving her fruits, and vegetables. Her favorite hobby was quilting, and she was actually still quilting until June of this year. Her health deteriorated rapidly, and she spent the last two months in Woodlands Rehabilitation Center.

She is survived by daughters: Mary Eskue and husband John of Bells, Texas, Freda Osborne and husband Phillip of Bonham, Texas, and Daphne Warren of Telephone,
Texas. Stepchildren Latricia Miller and Brenda Grooms, six grandchildren Kevin Eskue and fiancé Brandy Gilbert, Kim and Mike Taylor, Kristi and Troy Cox, Michael Osborne, Kerry and Heather Stockton, Sabrina Stockton. 17 great-grandchildren: Roxanne Kountz and Kyle Smith, Justin and Jacob Taylor, Cass and Clayton Shelton, Kaycie and Triston Matthews, Jamie Taylor, Hailey Cox, Alexis Osborne and Devon Odum, Harley Osborne, Sky and Johnson Tesalona, Hunter, Kyle, Tyler, Colton Stockton, Victoria, William, Olivia Beatty. 8 great-great grandchildren: Jadelyn and Aryanna Harwell, Charles Smith, Ellie and Hank Shelton, Taylor Osborne, Jaxon Odum, Sora Tesalona. She also left behind step grandkids, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren from Kenneth and Daphna Warren.

She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Jorene Collinsworth, Imogene West, Jewellene Sangster and Nita Jo Sangster.

A visitation will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel.

Services for Lavell will be Monday, September 11, 2023, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham, Texas beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Telephone, Texas. Brother Marty Hutchins will preside.

Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Lawing, Albert Lawing, Kevin Eskue, Michael Osborne, Kerry Stockton, Mike Taylor, and Troy Cox. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Don Fox.
