Sherman, Texas -- Betty Bess McKelvey, 94, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2024 at the Homestead of Sherman.

She was born on November 4, 1929 in Sherman, Texas, the daughter of Vaughn and Bess (Bentley) Hamilton.  Betty had a love for people and that love was visible in the gaze of her beautiful blue eyes. Her words were those of encouragement, kindness and the love of God. 

Over the years, Betty taught Sunday School, Training Union, GA’s and Awanas and sang in the church choir.  Much of her time was spent reading her Bibles. 

Time with her family brought her such joy.  She rejoiced in the many hours spent attending games and school activities and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty met Wilton Claud (Slim) McKelvey in the Sherman High School choir in 1947.  They married on December 23, 1949. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2020.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Betsy McKelvey Wheeler and husband Tom of Joplin, MO and Nancy McKelvey Bond and her husband Nolan (Chico) Bond of Sherman, grandchildren, Jake Bond and wife Laci, Sarah Schrader and husband Erik and Carrie Wooten and husband Brandon, great grandchildren, Harlee Wooten, Brody Wooten, Sky Schrader, Bryant Bond, Harper Wooten and Bentley Bond.  Betty is also survived by a niece and nephew and several cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. 

In lieu of flowers, Betty requested donations be made to the First Baptist Church Sherman Ministry of Encouragement.
