He was born in Sherman Texas, June 15, 1952; which was Father's Day that year, to Edgar Hickerson and Mary (Neal) Hickerson.

He graduated from Tom Bean High School in 1970. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. After Navy boot camp which was from Sept. to Nov. 1970 he married Sharon Jan White of McKinney on Nov. 25, 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy for 7 and half years as an Operation Specialist and as a M.P.

Donald moved back to Texas in 1978 and where he eventually went to Grayson County College. He graduated from Grayson with a degree in Machine Shop Technology. In 1983 Donald and Sharon adopted their son Edgar Lloyd.

He started working at Johnson & Johnson and was a mechanic there for 25 years before heart problems forced an early retirement.

Donald is survived by his wife Sharon, and his son Edgar Lloyd. Donald is also survived by his brother Ronald and his wife Sheila, sisters Elaine Horn, Beverly Clark and her husband Bill Clark; sister Dana Curtis and her husband Monty Curtis; and beloved sister-in-law Cathy Hickerson, wife of the late Garry Hickerson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Neal Hickerson, his father, Edgar Hickerson, and his younger brother Garry Hickerson. 

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Vittotoe Cemetery, Tom Bean, TX with Brother tony Linton officiating.  Interment will follow the service.

Family and friends visitation will be Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 4:00-6:00 p.m. at American Funeral Service, Denison, TX.
