
Even though the filing period began on Saturday, July 20, the City Clerk's Office was not required to be open so candidates could begin filing on Monday, July 22, 2024.
Candidates may obtain the necessary applications and supporting documents from the City Clerk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Council positions open for the November 5 Election are for Mayor, Council Member, At-Large, Place 1, and Council Member, At-Large, Place 2. All positions are voted on at-large, by the citizens of Sherman.
The Council positions are currently held by David Plyler (Mayor), Henry Marroquin (Council Member, At-Large, Place 1), and Juston Dobbs (Council Member, At-Large,
Place 2).
Mayor Plyler is not eligible for re-election, however, Council Members Marroquin and Dobbs are eligible for re-election.
Candidates for the current Council positions are not required to live in a specific district and can live anywhere in the City limits of Sherman.
All eligible voters in Sherman will vote for all of the City Council positions on the ballot.
Any citizen considering making an application for candidacy must be a United States citizen, 21 years of age or older, a resident of Sherman for the past twelve months, and must be a registered voter.
