Bonham, Texas -- Margery Jean Lackey was born on July 23, 1932, in Honey Grove, TX, to Ray and Mary Johnson. Mrs. Lackey passed away September 22, 2024, in Bonham, TX, at the age of 92.

Services for Mrs. Lackey will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, TX, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Brian Lackey will preside. Interment will follow at Arledge Ridge Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Lackey, Nathan Melson, Jarrod Compton, Dusty Compton, Kenneth Russell, and Craig Richards.

Mrs. Lackey married the love of her life Billy Gene Lackey on October 4, 1950, in Hope, Arkansas and the couple spent nearly 46 years together until the passing of Mr. Lackey in 1996.

Jean loved to go camping and spend holidays with her family, especially her favorite holiday, Easter. She was very good at sewing, needle point, and was known to make the best chicken and dumplings.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Julia Ann Russell and husband Kenneth of Dodd City, and Cathy Jean Melson of Dodd City, as well as 5 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Lackey is preceded in death by her parents, Ray Johnson and Mary Archer, her beloved husband Billy Gene Lackey, brother Arthur Johnson, sisters; June Williams, Alma Burkhalter, and Margaret Gaston, as well as her son-in-law Steven Melson.
