The Zeta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host its 38th Annual Greek Explosion at 6 p.m. on March 1st in the Coliseum at the University of North Texas . The Greek Explosion is the longest running step-show in the Southwest region, and one of the largest in the state with over 4500 in attendance last year. Attendance this year is expected to surpass prior years.
The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $15 for a single ticket (step show only) and $20 for the combo (step show and after-party). The week before the show, tickets will be $20 for a single ticket and $30 for the combo.
College students from across the state and beyond attend the Greek Explosion to see exciting entertainment that blends the hottest music with synchronized stepping and choreographed movement by the best stepping performances in the region.
Undergraduate Greek-letter sorority and fraternity chapters from locations across the United States compete for "Best Step Team," bragging rights, and prize money along with trophies. Judges from fraternity and sorority alumni chapters select the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners among the sororities and fraternities.
Prize money totaling $5,326.00 will be given to the winners, with 1st place winning $1913.00.
But for the Zeta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, the Greek Explosion is not all about bragging rights and entertainment. It is about uplifting the community and providing assistance to organizations that are determined to make a difference in the lives of individuals locally and abroad.
Portions of the proceeds are donated to charities located in the Dallas , Fort Worth and Denton communities. Some of the local charities supported are AIDS Services of North Texas, American Cancer Society, and The Black Academy of Arts and Letters and The Heads Up! Foundation.
A few of the national and international organizations benefiting from Greek Explosion proceeds include Howard University, the founding university of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Mary Help of the Sick Mission Hospital located in Kenya (West Africa) and the United Negro College Fund.
Zeta Eta History
The Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on September 29, 1968 , by nineteen visionary collegiate women of high academic standing on the campus of North Texas State (now the University of North Texas ). Through the Five-Point Thrust of the national organization, Zeta Eta strives to make a difference on the UNT campus and in surrounding communities. Past awards bestowed upon the chapter in the past two years have been Most Community Service Hours, Involvement Cup, Excellence in Service, and Most Improved GPA and The Scrappy (UNT Spirit) Award, and Involvement with NPHC. In 2003, Zeta Eta was named Chapter of the Year for the Southwest Region, one of the highest honors given to an undergraduate chapter in the organization of more than 250,000 members.
