  • Visit McKinney is now accepting applications for its tourism grant program, designed to support events and initiatives that promote McKinney as a visitor destination. "As the city’s tourism entity, we aim to boost the local economy by attracting visitor-related travel,” said Aaron Werner, Visit McKinney Executive Director. “These grants help organizations market projects that encourage overnight stays in McKinney hotels."
  • Grayson County has 188 Texas Historical Markers and the next one to be unveiled March 29, 2025, will document one of the most difficult chapters in the county's history -- the Sherman riot of 1930 that resulted in the burning of the county courthouse, the death of a Black man named George Hughes who had pleaded guilty to raping a White woman and the subsequent devastation of most of the Black business section in Sherman by a raging, racist mob. As word of the riot spread, lynchings were reported in Honey Grove, Texas, Brazos County and Chickasha, Oklahoma.
  • In the May 3 school board election, two incumbents are running unopposed, but two candidates are vying for Place 5.
  • Two candidates have tossed their hat into the ring in hopes of representing Ward 3 on the Bonham City Council. Election day is May 3.

  • The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officials have announced upcoming US 75 northbound and southbound mainlane closures, beginning near FM 691 on the south and Crawford St. on the north. The closure is scheduled from 9:00 p.m. on March 26, until 5:00 a.m. on March 27, to facilitate the placing of the bridge deck.
  • It is important to note that an indictment is a formal charge and should not be considered as evidence of guilt and that all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
  • The McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) is pleased to announce that they have awarded project grants to support quality-of-life projects that will benefit the community.
  • A small group of Old West amateur historians are inviting area residents to join them in a gravesite ceremony in honor of Olive Oatman-Fairchild at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 21 at West Hill Cemetery, 1304 W. Lamar Street in Sherman, Texas. Mrs. Oatman-Fairchild passed away March 21,1903.
  • Come on out to the shady, peaceful countryside found at historic Shilo Cemetery. Work to be done includes clearing returning brambles and briars, and removal of fallen branches.
  • On March 19, 2025, Fannin County First Assistant District Attorney, Nathan Young, secured the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison in the Intoxication Manslaughter case of Kyle Scott Wilson, 38, of Trenton. Wilson also received the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison in two cases of Intoxication Assault with Vehicle.
  • During a regular meeting of Fannin County Commissioners Court on March 18, 2025, Pct. 3 Commissioner Kurt Fogelberg made a motion to appoint Fannin County Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Hudson to a two-year term as Fannin County Fire Marshal. Pct. 1 Commissioner Troy Waggoner seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Initially, Hudson will enforce the state fire code; he estimated that it will take 30 days to adopt a more stringent county fire code. Established businesses will be compelled to come into compliance.
  • At a joint meeting, the McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) approved the issuance of sales tax revenue bonds to fund the construction of eastside infrastructure at McKinney National Airport.
  • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officials today announced an update to the speed limit on SH 121 in Fannin County between Bonham and Trenton, to 70 mph. The speed limit update will go into effect once the signs are in place on March 20. The limits of change are from the south city limits of Bonham to the north city limits of Trenton.
  • Mowing is the single most important aspect of cemetery maintenance and also the most expensive. Costs have increased steadily every year. Donations are our biggest source of revenue. Willow Wild has undergone a remarkable transformation since last fall. Fence lines have been cleared, and trees have been trimmed. Dead trees have been removed. The grounds are cleared and cleaned. In a month or so, it will be beautiful. We need your help to keep it looking the way our community deserves.

  • With no rain in sight and high winds forecast this week, Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham has issued a Disaster Declaration related to the risk of wildfires. Outdoor burning is prohibited throughout Fannin County until midnight Saturday, March 22, 2025. Any violation of this Disaster Declaration is punishable as a Class C misdemeanor by a fine not to exceed $500.00 or as authorized by Government Code §418.173 and if adopted in the county's emergency plan by a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 or confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days, whichever is greater.
  • The Craft Road bridge in Grayson County at Craft Road crossing Choctaw Creek Tributary is a Camelback pony metal truss bridge built in 1920. The bridge originally carried a railroad, but it was relocated to its current spot in 1950 and widened. The bridge is significant for its engineering history as a local example of a truss bridge. The bridge is in poor condition but with needed repairs and overall painting, the truss could be repurposed as a pedestrian bridge.
  • Motorists are advised to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
  • Notice is hereby given that the automatic tabulating
    equipment to be used in the General Elections held on May 3, 2025 will be tested on 3/19/2025 at 10 AM at 800 E. 2nd Street, Bonham to ascertain that it will accurately count the votes cast for all offices and on all measures.
  • The Texas State Troopers Association (TSTA) is pleased to announce that the application period for the 2025 TSTA Scholarship Program has opened and will run through May 30, 2025.
  • With wind gusts possibly as high as 65mph, Dallas media outlets are predicting that some areas may experience the most dangerous threat of fire, particularly fast-moving grass fires, in 16 years. The extreme fire danger caused the National Weather Service to issue a fire weather watch and Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham has issued a Disaster Declaration Related to the Risk of Wildfires.
  • The City of Honey Grove will use the assistance for the planning, design, and construction of a water system improvement project.
  • Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that the US 75 frontage road intersection at Crawford Street as well as the US 75 frontage road intersection at North Loy Lake Road in Denison, Texas, will be converted to all-way stops beginning March 13.
  • The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating missing 17-year-old, Aneth Cochran-Flores. Aneth went missing from Richardson, Texas, on Feb. 14, 2025. She is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 175 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair.   • John Robert Leake, 43, of Plano, Texas, but who formerly resided in Marina del Rey, was sentenced by United States District Judge John F. Walter, who also ordered him to pay $5,314,059 in restitution.
  • On Feb. 21, Texas pharmacist Dehshid “David” Nourian, 62, of Plano, was sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison and ordered to pay over $115 million in restitution for his role in a $145 million scheme to defraud the Department of Labor through the submission of fraudulent claims for prescription compound creams.

The first phase, now active, provides 2 MGD of capacity, replacing the temporary package plant that handled 0.4 MGD. That is enough water to support thousands of additional homes, ensuring sustainable growth for our community. Put simply, this first phase is the equivalent to filling 32,000 bathtubs every single day.

This spring we will be charging a $5 cover charge to help offset the costs of the bands.

Free and open to the public, the event will offer no-cost mammograms for women ages 40 and up, blood pressure screenings and glucose monitoring plus pampering services such as chair massages, mini facials and makeup tutorials – all designed to emphasize the importance of women’s health and self-care. And for those looking to start their morning off right, a one-hour boot camp led by Team Bailey Fitness will kick off in the gym at 7:00 a.m.

Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Fort Inglish and the support of the City of Bonham, there is no admission charge at the present time, but donations are certainly welcome to finance the operations and upkeep.

In addition to its Showtime Saturdays performances held each week at 11:30 a.m., the shopping center has fun activities planned throughout March 8-22, the two-week period during which most North Texas kids will be out of school for Spring Break.

What do you see when you cross the threshold into these businesses? Do you see Bonham's past?
  • I was curious about the relationship between Harry S Truman and Sam Rayburn because of a piece of corn. Currently at the Sam Rayburn Museum there is corn on the cob encased in resin on display in the "Gifts of a Nation" display case. No one is completely certain why Rayburn had it, but Truman has the same one. This is what led me to look into the friendship between Rayburn and Truman.   • Bonham resident Kay Sisk has collected postcards of Bonham for many years, finding them at trade shows and estate sales. Some of the postcards were given away free by local businesses, and some were sold. The Fannin County Museum of History asked Kay to display some of her postcards in the display case on the 2nd floor of the courthouse.
  • A large crowd filled Lyday Hall at Honey Grove Library & Learning Center on Saturday, March 1, 2025, to hear what local archeologist Cody Davis and his cohorts discovered in the area that is now covered by Bois d'Arc Lake.

Then they heard bulldozers clearing trees.
  • "Japanese War Brides: Across a Wide Divide" begins a national tour December 14 at Irving Archives and Museum in Irving, Texas. These young women left their homes to build lives within the complexities of postwar American society. Their experiences reshaped communities by challenging immigration laws and race relations. The arrival of these brides marked the largest women-only immigration event in U.S. history and, by 1960, had increased the population of Asian Americans in the U.S. by 10%.
  • The Fannin County Museum of History has several Fannin County history books for sale that might be just perfect for someone you know. The books are available for purchase at the Museum and are also available on Amazon.
  • Historic Fannin County newspapers often featured beautiful front pages for their Christmas editions. An exhibit of these newspapers is now on display on the 2nd Floor of the Fannin County Courthouse. Visit the courthouse during this season to view this display and beautiful decorations.
  • Upper Trinity's contractors are finishing up construction on five new streams near future Lake Ralph Hall, which will flow into the North Sulphur River. The newly connected tributary streams are naturally beginning to flow with rainwater this fall, bringing life back to areas impacted for decades by severe erosion and loss of habitat. Restoring the tributaries of the river to their natural, curved paths helps mitigate the area's severe erosion and provide previously lost habitat.
