Bonham, Texas -- James Alton Speed entered into the presence of Jesus Christ on December 16, 2024 in Denton, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home in Bonham, TX.
James was born on January 7, 1984 in Denison, TX to James Alton Speed and Judith Ann Whitlock. From a young age James loved to hunt and fish. Spending time with family was at the heart of James. At the time of his passing he worked for Chemical Weed Control. James had previously worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Sergeant in Bonham for over a decade. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, and friend. A true man amongst men. He led his family spiritually and as they grew, his spiritual walk with Jesus Christ grew. James was always studying his Bible and took those biblical virtues to heart and with him in his daily life. James loved the Lord with all his heart and the family takes great comfort in knowing that James is in the presence of his Creator.
James is preceded in death by sister, Lauren Crowell, grandmother, Martha Richards, and great grandmother, Judy Hutsell.
He leaves behind, wife Chelsey Speed of 12 years, daughter, Scout Speed, son, Trace Speed, mother, Judy Hix (Alan), siblings, David Speed, Suzanne Wine (Daniel), grandfather, Ernie Richards, In-laws, Kit and Ray McLemore, uncles, Jimmy Speed, Joel Richards, cousins, Joel Richards II (Kaylin), Alianna Richards, niece, Alison Wine, nephew, Andrew Wine.
The funeral for James is Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11am at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ in Paris, TX with Kyle Young, Jerry Clayton, and Al Domangue officiating. Visitation will be 1hr prior to service with burial following at MT. Tabor Cemetery, Paris, TX.
Pallbearers will be David Speed, Kevin Hartwell, Justin Bethel, Cooper Easley, Clint Gann, Bruce Caylor and Cade Crawford.
