New Fannin County officials sworn in

Bonham, Texas - Eleven officials were sworn-in on New Year’s Day during an investiture ceremony in the historic courthouse in Bonham.

Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham welcomed the standing-room-only crowd to the ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on January 1, 2025. Cunningham remarked that this event meant substantial change for the county and encouraged all officials to listen carefully to the oaths they would be taking and to live by those words.

336th District Judge Christina Tillet

Christina Tillet was the first to take her oath. She was sworn in by US Magistrate Judge Aileen Durrett as the new 336th District Judge. After taking her oath, she donned a judicial robe and then administered oaths of office to ten other officials.

Fannin County Criminal District Attorney John Skotnik

John Skotnik was sworn in as the new Fannin County Criminal District Attorney and Cody Shook as the new Fannin County Sheriff. Jenny Garner was sworn in for a new term as the Fannin County Clerk and Amber Vest Sutherland took her oath for another term as the Fannin County Tax Assessor Collector.

Two new Fannin County Commissioners took their oaths; Troy Waggoner for Precinct 1 and Kurt Fogelberg for Precinct 3. Paul Thomas Ivy was sworn in as the Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2.

Three constables took their oaths; David Thompson for Precinct 1, Jimmy Helms for Precinct 2 and Kevin Mayberry for Precinct 3.
