Four city council seats to be
on the general election ballot May 3

McKinney, Texas -- McKinney residents will have the opportunity to vote on four City Council seats during the general election on May 3. Positions open for consideration include the mayor, representatives for District 1 and District 3, and one at-large seat, each serving a four-year term.

Individuals interested in running for City Council can access a candidate packet on the elections webpage. The packet contains all necessary forms, instructions, eligibility criteria, important election dates, and campaign sign regulations. Hard copies are also available upon request from the City Secretary's Office at City Hall, 401 E. Virginia St.

Candidate filings opened Jan. 15 and applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Filings are accepted during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

Key election dates:

  • Deadline to register to vote: April 3
  • Early voting: April 22 – 29
  • Election Day: May 3
