Grapevine, Texas -- Mike Hicks, 67, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Elks Lodge at 909 Bushong Rd in Grapevine, TX. 

Mike was born November 4, 1957 in Roswell, NM, the son of Keith Charles "KC" Hicks and Betty Margaret (Ottwell) Hicks. He graduated from Quartz Hill High School in Lancaster, CA in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served on submarines. He was honorably discharged in 1980. He was a proud "bubblehead" and veteran.

After the Navy, he moved to Roswell, NM to be with his grandparents, Kenneth Franklin "Kenny" and Joyce Phyllis (Johnson) Hicks. He loved her pancakes and playing cards with them. He got a job as a supervisor at Transportation Manufacturing Corporation (TMC) working on buses. He married Joyce Rene Evans in 1981. They welcomed a son into the world, Derek Michael Hicks, on October 6, 1981. He accepted a job offer with the United States Postal Service shortly after.

In 1985, he accepted a transfer to the DeSoto, TX Post Office. In 2005, he accepted a Postmaster position at the Honey Grove, TX Post Office and moved to Windom, TX. He retired in 2013 from the United States Postal Service. They sold their home and traveled the US with their camper, visiting family and seeing the sights. In 2015, they moved to Bella Vista, AR to be closer to his father. In 2021, they moved back to Texas to be closer to grandchildren. 

He enjoyed building things, working on projects around the house and his son's house, estate sales, yelling at the Dallas Cowboys, playing cribbage, watching his grandkids play sports, day trips driving to random places, corned beef hash tacos, German chocolate cake, homemade bread, grilling out no matter the weather, seeing family in Greenville, spending time with his wife, dogs, and chickens.

Mike is survived by his amazing wife, Joyce; daughter, Marie of Arlington; son, Derek of Coppell; grandchildren: Kennedy and husband Elijiah Kountz of Sun Valley, ID. Grant Michael and Abigail Rose "Abby" Hicks; Brothers: David and wife Lee Hicks of Honolulu, HI. Tyler and wife Sherry Hicks of Phoenix, AZ; Sisters: Stacy and husband Scott Mitchell of Shawnee, KS. Susan and husband Donnie Brown of Greenville. Nephews: Justin and wife Rachel Hicks of Marysville, WA. Mat Brown of Honolulu, HI. Joseph Evans of TX. Jon Eric Medlock of Morrice, MI Nieces: Anna and husband Devon Taylor of Montrose, MI. Katie and husband Garrett Young of Whitesboro. Mother-in-Law: Nancy Evans of Pottsboro. Sisters-in-law: Janice and husband Terry Bastian of Owosso, MI. Nancy Inman of Swartz Creek, MI. JoAnn Peace of Euless. Brother-in-law: David Evans of San Jose, CA.

Mike chose to be cremated and will have a headstone at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later time.
