Sherman, Texas -- The Austin College Music Department presents saxophonist Dr. Andrew Wright in a faculty recital February 20, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in Wynne Chapel. Wright’s program includes four beautiful works for saxophone and piano, accompanied by pianist Dr. Min Kyung Kim. The performance is free and open to the public.
Wright earned a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Central Arkansas, a master's degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas’s (UNT) world-renowned jazz program, and a doctorate in saxophone performance, also from UNT. He currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Applied Music at Austin College, where he teaches a small studio of clarinet and saxophone students. Additionally, he is the program director of the music department at Grayson College in Denison, Texas, where he teaches saxophone lessons and conducts both the band and jazz band.
Along with numerous solo recitals, Wright has performed and presented lectures at various North American Saxophone Alliance conferences. He has been featured as a soloist on multiple recordings with the North Texas Wind Symphony, including Canvases, Composer’s Collection: George Gershwin, Reconstructions, and Conclave.
Throughout his career, Wright has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Ray Charles, Chris Vadala, Steve Houghton, Marc Nuccio, and Andy Martin.
