Sherman, Texas -- Dorothy Leone Wintz, 92, of Sherman, passed from this life on March 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy, also known as Dotty Lee or Mombo, was born on December 24, 1932, in Randolph, Nebraska. Her parents were Henry and Odelia (Hosch) Sauser. She graduated from St. Francis Catholic High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Wayne State University. On October 11, 1956, she married Arthur Francis Wintz in Randolph, Nebraska.
Throughout her career, she served as an elementary school teacher, worked for Dell Electronics and the Brunswick Factory, was a seamstress, and owned an upholstery outlet shop. She also taught upholstery at Grayson County Junior College.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was active in the church ladies’ group. She enjoyed sewing, motorcycle riding, ATV riding, water skiing, bowling, swimming, jet ski riding, and drawing.
Dorothy was dedicated to Jesus Christ and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved playing games with her family, sewing and creating designer clothing and was a wonderful cook. Additionally, Dorothy volunteered weekly at the church and sewed new pew cushions for St. Mary’s Church.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, Henry and Odelia Sauser, her brother, Jack Sauser, and her grandson, Phillip Michael Wintz. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Wintz of Sherman, TX; sons Dale Wintz, Alan Wintz, and Mark Wintz and his spouse, Katherine, all of Texas; granddaughters Christine Monroe and her spouse, David Monroe of TX, Danielle Wintz and her fiancée, Roger Okert of TX, and Alexandra Rivers and her spouse, Anthony of Colorado; great-grandchildren Henry Monroe, Ellie Monroe, Michael Monroe, and Wyatt Rivers; brothers Jerry Sauser of Kansas and Roy Sauser of Nebraska; and sisters Helen Ann of California and Jean of New Mexico.
A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Immediately following the rosary, the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with Father Merlito Abiog officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
