Cotter, Arkansas -- Until the stormy monsoon moved into Arkansas at midweek, we were in a nice stretch of weather, at least for a few days. A lot of anglers, including many visitors from out of state, took in the opportunity to catch some trout on the state's inviting tailwaters.

Westyn Peek, a 10-year-old angler (top left) who was with his family from North Carolina fishing the White River out of Cotter Trout Dock earlier this week, happily enjoyed catching another brown trout, something he's been doing for several years. He pulled in at least 10 on Tuesday, according to the folks at Cotter Trout Dock. His grandfather (not pictured) caught and released two trophy browns later this week. Shad and sculpin were the baits of choice for Westyn.

Mitchell Bishop (above) was also on the family trip with Westyn and others from out east and hauled his own own massive brown trout on the White.

Farther down south on the White River at Allison (just north of Mountain View), anglers had a big time fishing from Jack's White River Fishing Resort. David, Paul and Reece Bruce (pictured below) fished with guide Chris George on Saturday and caught a feast of trout for dinner.

Guides were having success with their clients using Sunrise Orange PowerBait, handmade hammered silver spinners and shrimp, and it turned out to be a great week of fishing for several groups, even with water level fluctuating between 2 and 5 feet in spots.

Meanwhile, Arkansans Shanna and Dan Kennedy fish for trout every year on Shanna's birthday, March 22, and were on the White River north of Gaston's Resort where they had a big time. Dan caught the biggest fish but Shanna caught the most. "Pretty fair trade," she says. "It was cold on the river that day, but what a great way to turn 50."
