Incentives offered for those who pledge
to water no more than twice a week

Lewisville, Texas -- As hotter weather arrives, residents of Upper Trinity Regional Water District’s service area (including 29 communities in portions of Denton and Collin Counties) are encouraged to follow the mandatory, two-day-per-week watering schedule. Upper Trinity is asking residents to save water through its “Give a Drip” campaign.

The mandatory two-day-per-week watering schedule helps keep lakes full, protects the water treatment infrastructure for this fast-growing region, and saves residents money on water bills. It’s best for residents to water before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. and hand-water plants and flower/garden beds as needed.

Residents are encouraged to consult their local water utility for more information about the local schedules they have established. Some cities are asking customers to water on specific days.

Qualified residents who Pledge to water no more than two days a week will receive free swag while supplies last and be entered into monthly drawings for a free irrigation repair kit.

Then, in October, there will be a drawing for one of two smart irrigation controllers or a free professional landscape consultation and a $500 gift card to RootedIn, a local garden center. The Pledge form can be found at www.waterlessyall.com.

“More than half of water used during the summer is for outdoor watering, which amounts to several billion gallons applied to yards annually,” said Upper Trinity’s Executive Director Larry Patterson. “The water we use for our yards directly impacts our lake levels. Using less water outdoors protects our lakes for drinking water and other critical indoor uses and helps keep them more full for outdoor recreation.”

To assist residents in following the two-day-per-week guidelines, Upper Trinity offers resources and classes on water-efficient landscaping and irrigation practices. According to plant health science, grass and many plants typically do not require watering more than twice a week. Watering less frequently promotes a stronger root system and makes plants more resilient to heat. Early spring is a key time to check sprinkler systems too. Irrigation evaluations, conducted by a licensed irrigator, make sure that sprinkler systems are in working order and provide expert advice on a proper watering schedule.

Upper Trinity urges residents to “give a drip” and water less y’all. To pledge and find more information, visit waterlessyall.com.
