Sherman, Texas -- Linda Carol Martin of Sherman, Texas, passed away on April 1, 2025, in Denison, Texas.

Linda was born in Lamesa, Texas, on October 17, 1942, the daughter of Morris S. and Neida (Francis) Martin.  She lived around Lamesa for five years or so, and in those five years, she developed a love for the land and the people who stayed with her for her entire life.

She and her family moved to Sherman, where she spent most of her formative years. She made dear friends in Sherman that were her friends to the end of her days. She went on to college at East Texas Baptist College, where she earned a degree in elementary education.

Education became her life's work. She started in the Richardson Independent School District, where she taught for nineteen years. Along the way, she added to her educational degrees with classes at UNT and SMU. That eventually led her to a sales position with the Nystrom Geographical Supply Company. There, she interacted with teachers at workshops and conventions with quizzes and games she created to encourage involvement in the study of geography. This enabled Linda to be one of the company’s leading salespersons for several years.

Throughout all this time, she became an active member of Toastmasters of downtown Dallas. She initially started there for self-improvement but eventually progressed to helping others in this area as a judge and critic. In retirement, she also used the skills she learned with Toastmasters to assist less-privileged teens with their speaking and writing.

A number of these young people went on to be leaders in their classrooms as well as eventually having success in college. During this same retirement time, she was active in the Richardson Women's Club as the club's newsletter editor. She was dedicated to this task the way she was with all the other things she undertook. She edited and submitted her last newsletter shortly before she left her home in Dallas for the last time.

The list of other interests and accomplishments in Linda's life is too lengthy to mention. Linda was never one to toot her own horn, but looking back, she lived a full and vibrant life that touched many. Traveling with friends, church work, volunteering opportunities, reading and learning of American history, as well as loving those early Cowboys, were just a few of the items on her to-do list. But near the top of that list would be her love and concern for her family, especially her mother and father.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Neida Martin, an infant sister, Genevieve, and older brothers, Raymond and Jimmy.

She is survived by an older sister, Wanda, and a younger brother, Charles as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service is planned per Linda’s wishes.

A special thanks to the people at Grayson Court and Three Oaks Hospice for their dedication and support over the last year.
