Commerce, Texas -- The Dodd City Hornets and the Sulphur Bluff Bears will be back on the baseball diamond Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Commerce after splitting the first two games of this bi-district series.
Dodd City dominated game one, 10-2, with Gavin Shindler going 2-for-3, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Weldon Garner and Cash Crossland both went 2-for-4 and both drove in a pair of runs. Brody Lappin, Shindler and Crossland all scored twice.
Caysen Lappin went the distance and struck out six to notch the victory.
Sulphur Bluff responded with a resounding 14-1 win in game two. The Bears scored three runs in the first inning and plated a pair of runners in the top of the second to go up 5-0.
Dodd City got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the third, but that was all the Hornet offense could muster against Sulphur Bluff starting pitcher, Brock Gunn, who held Dodd City to four hits and fanned nine.
The Bears picked up two runs in the fifth frame and put the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning to post a 14-1 victory.
Brody Lappin had two hits for Dodd City, with Maddox Lappin and Gavin Shindler each getting one hit.
The winner of game three in this series will advance to face Bryson in the area round.
