McKinney, Texas -- McKinney residents cast their ballots Saturday in the general election to select four City Council representatives: Mayor, At Large, District 1, and District 3. Voters in Districts 1 and 3 chose representatives from their respective districts, while all McKinney voters cast ballots for the Mayor and At-Large positions. There were 11 candidates in total across the four races.
To be elected, a candidate must receive a majority of the vote (more than 50 percent). Results are provided by the Collin County Election Administrator and remain unofficial until approved by the McKinney City Council.
Mayor Run-off Election
No candidate for Mayor received a majority. A run-off election will be held on June 7 between these two candidates:
- Bill Cox 8,953 votes (46.79%)
- Scott Sanford 7,810 votes (40.81%)
Other candidates who will not proceed to the run-off:
- Matt Doc Rostami 1,106 votes (5.78%)
- Taylor Willingham 1,267 votes (6.62%)
At-Large Run-off Election
No candidate for the At-Large seat received a majority. A run-off election will be held on June 7 between these two candidates:
- Ernest Lynch 5,025 votes (29.34%)
- Jim Garrison 3,422 votes (19.98%)
Other candidates who will not proceed to the run-off:
- Taha Ansari 2,358 votes (13.77%)
- Brian J. Magnuson 3,256 votes (19.01%)
- Derrick Tarver 3,068 votes (17.91%)
District 1
Justin Beller has won the District 1 seat with 1,707 votes (100%). He was unopposed.
District 3
Gerι Feltus has won the District 3 seat with 3,859 votes (53.52%).
She defeated:
- Tammy Warren 3,351 votes (46.48%)
A runoff election will be held Saturday, June 7. Early voting will be held May 27-31 and June 2-3. More information for the run-off election for City Council will be posted at McKinneyTexas.org/Vote.
