Sherman, Texas -- The semiconductor industry's most advanced 300mm wafer production facility held a ribbon cutting at the plant's Sherman, Texas location Thursday, May 15, 2025, with dignitaries from Taiwan, the State of Texas and the City of Sherman on hand to celebrate the occasion.

GlobalWafers, a Taiwanese tech manufacturing company and the world's third largest silicon wafer supplier, invested $3.5 billion in this advanced wafer production facility and hinted at another $4 billion investment to meet the exponential demand in the U.S. for this cutting-edge technology.

Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs, Kuo Jyh-huei

The ribbon cutting was to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of a three-phase plan for the GlobalWafers America facility. After speeches and the ribbon cutting, guests were treated to a guided factory tour. Production should begin later this year.

In addition to being home to the only advanced wafer production facility in the U.S., Sherman is experiencing a surge in construction projects. Located slightly north of three of the fastest growing cities in the nation -- Princeton, Celina and Anna -- one study has Sherman listed as the third fastest growing metro areas based on construction projects.
