Sherman, Texas -- Hot Summer Nights, Sherman's free summer concert series, launched its 2025 season with a scorching performance by Everclear in front of a record crowd.

This band has worn every label, from grunge to rebel rockers for adults, but Everclear front man Art Alexakis prefers a simpler definition.

"We are an old-school rock band," Alexakis told the audience in Sherman Thursday night and this band of Dave French (guitar), Freddy Herrera (bass) and Brian Nolan (drums) backed him up with an energetic performance that thrilled the crowd at Hot Summer Nights.

Everclear began getting major airplay 30 years ago when "Santa Monica" (Watch the World Die) hit the airwaves in 1995. The band hit the big time with the 1997 release of So Much for the Afterglow, which featured singles "Father of Mine," Everything to Everyone" and "I Will Buy You a New Life."

An overflow crowd served notice that the City of Sherman couldn't have picked a better rock band to kick off this year's Hot Summer Nights concert series.

Pam Tillis will be the next featured performer at Hot Summer Nights on June 12; the Shawn Fussell Band will open.
