Durant, Oklahoma -- Southeastern Oklahoma State University is excited to announce the addition of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing to its undergraduate degree portfolio after approval by the Higher Learning Commission, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, and the Regional University System of Oklahoma.

The program’s first cohort will begin in Fall 2025, with applications open now at https://online.se.edu/programs/healthcare/rn-to-bsn/. This program expands on the undergraduate portfolio at Southeastern in ways specifically designed to meet the needs of the state of Oklahoma and the region. The initial classes for the program will begin in October 2025.

This program is designated as an RN-to-BSN program, where registered nurses can pursue a degree which will advance career advancement opportunities, as well as improve patient outcomes. This also officially marks the first nursing program offered by Southeastern.

“The health of our communities is so important, and there are gaps in the system, especially in Southeastern Oklahoma and the Texoma region,” said Southeastern President Dr. Thomas W. Newsom. “We’ve heard from our industry and governmental partners that qualified nurses are always needed, and this program will be a great opportunity for registered nurses who want to advance not just their career, but the outcomes for patients in their communities.”

“We are thrilled to launch this RN to BSN program at Southeastern,” said Southeastern director of nursing and allied health Dr. Amanda St. John. “This new degree is an exciting step forward in our mission to strengthen the nursing workforce and improve health outcomes in our communities. We look forward to supporting nurses as they advance their education and expand their impact in the communities they serve.”
