Taxiway A - Phase II project will complete important safety enhancements to TKI’s airfield
Taxiway A Rehabilitation and Construction - Phase II, part of a two-phase rehabilitation plan for TKI’s primary general aviation taxiway, is now completely funded. With the city’s contributions of $1,500,000 for construction costs and $449,800 for design costs, the $8,950,000 project is now set to move forward.
Taxiway A is located on the west side of the airport and supports general aviation aircraft operations. It is being rehabilitated as the pavement is at the end of its service life. The Taxiway A - Phase II project scope includes rehabilitating the old pavement, constructing a new taxiway connector in a more suitable location, removing the old taxiway connector, and grading and drainage improvements.
“Completing the southern portion of the Taxiway A rehabilitation project will deliver important benefits for our airport users and community,” said TKI Airport Director Kenneth Carley, A.A.E. “Pilots and their passengers will have a safe taxiway to operate on, and the project will provide jobs for local skilled workers.”
“We thank TxDOT for its sizable grant, which is funding 82 percent of this critical airfield investment at TKI,” Carley continued.
Garver was selected to design and construct the project through a formal Request for Qualifications process.
Designed to be constructed in two phases, Phase I construction is currently underway, and Phase II is expected to be completed in spring 2027. The overall project has been in the airport’s Master Plan since 2018.
