McKinney, Texas -- On August 26, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the McKinney Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 4200 block of Pecan Bend Lane. Callers reported flames and heavy smoke coming from a residential garage, along with sounds of explosions.
During operations, a burn patient was discovered in the backyard of the residence. Fire Department and EMS personnel provided immediate medical care, and the patient was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Despite continuous efforts from both EMS and the hospital staff, the patient died from their injuries. No other occupants were found inside the residence.
The first firefighters on scene saw heavy smoke coming from the front door. As additional crews arrived, the house was searched for the fire source, additional victims, and all utilities were shut down. The fire was found in the attic space above the garage where crews worked diligently to contain it.
The fire was brought under control within an hour of arrival. Crews remained on scene to conduct overhaul, extinguish hotspots, and support the fire investigation. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the McKinney Fire Marshal’s Office.
