October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Oct 2, 2025
Fannin County, Texas -- On Tuesday, October 30, 2025, Fannin County Commissioners Court approved a Proclamation declaring the month of October 2025 to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Fannin County to encourage everyone to increase their awareness, and work to prevent family violence in communities across Texas.
"Yesterday our commissioners officially proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month," said Amanda McDonald, Executive Director of Fannin County Family Crisis Center. For the month of October, we invite you to stand with us, to wear purple, to speak up, to share resources, and to let survivors know:
"You are seen. You are heard. You are believed. And you are not alone."

"Each year, this month reminds us of both the heartbreak and the hope that comes with the fight to end domestic violence," McDonald continued. "It’s a time to honor survivors, remember the lives lost, and recommit to creating a safer community for everyone.
"Here in Texas, the numbers remind us just how critical this work is:
- In 2023, 216 Texans were killed by an intimate partner. That’s nearly one life every two days. (TCFV)
- And every year, 1 in 3 Texans experience some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Girls and young women ages 16-24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence. (Texas Advocacy Project)
- Last year we served 150 survivors. That number does not include their children or other family members who also received services, because domestic violence impacts the whole family, we provide services to everyone affected. (FCFCC)
"Behind each of these numbers is a story of a mother, a father, a friend, a neighbor, and it reminds us that domestic violence doesn’t discriminate. It affects every community, including our own.
"At the Fannin County Family Crisis Center, we see firsthand the courage it takes to reach out for help, and the difference community support can make. Together, with our law enforcement partners, local leaders, and caring citizens, we are working to build a county where safety, respect, and hope are possible for everyone."
