McKinney, Texas -- On Nov. 18, 2025, Habitat for Humanity of Collin County will host a home blessing ceremony for the newly-completed “Carter House” at 809 Green Street in McKinney. This ceremony marks a year-long milestone in community collaboration and honors the enduring legacy of the late President Jimmy Carter.

Originally slated as a renovation, Alvaro and Alma Hernandez's home quickly revealed deeper structural issues, prompting a full rebuild from the ground up. Over the past year, Habitat construction crew members and volunteers from partner organizations, including Wells Fargo, Ally Bank, East West Bank, Adaptive Training Foundation, and Southgate Home Builders, have contributed countless hours to bring the project to life.

The project was dedicated to President Jimmy Carter for his 100th birthday, October 1, 2024, and has been affectionately referred to as “The Carter House” throughout its construction, a poignant reminder of the late president's four-decade commitment to creating affordable housing opportunities as well as humanitarian service via Habitat for Humanity.

“This home is more than lumber and nails —it’s a living tribute to President Carter’s legacy of compassion, dignity, and action,” said Scott Elliott, Board Chair of Habitat for Humanity of Collin County. “His belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live continues to inspire our work and unite our community.”

City officials will be in attendance to honor the occasion alongside Habitat staff, volunteers, corporate sponsors, the Hernandez family, and their friends and neighbors. The event will include a blessing of the home, words of gratitude, and a celebration of the collaborative spirit that made this project possible.
