Candidates filing deadline closes for March 3 primary election

Fannin County, Texas -- The filing deadline for primary candidates in the March 3, 2026 primary election was 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2025.

In Fannin County, voters will go to the polls to select a county judge, Pct. 2 commissioner, Pct. 4 commissioner, county court at law judge, county clerk, district clerk, county treasurer, and justices of the peace for Pct. 1, Pct. 2 and Pct. 3. All are four-year terms.

Contested races in the Republican primary (listed alphabetically, (I) designates incumbents) 

Five candidates have filed to run for Fannin County Judge in the Republican primary: Bill Carey, H. Compton, Newt Cunningham (I), Jim Simpson, John Tynan.

Two candidates have filed to run for Pct. 2 commissioner: Jimmie Allred, Brandon Wallace.

Two candidates have filed to run for Pct. 4 commissioner: Mike Keene, Doug Kopf (I)

Two candidates have filed to run for county treasurer: Dale McQueen, Derek Moore.

Two candidates have filed to run for Justice of the Peace for Pct 2: Mark Buchanan, Paul Ivy (I).

A drawing will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025, on the second floor of the Fannin County Courthouse to determine the order that names will appear on the ballot.

The first day of early voting is Tuesday, February 17, 2026.*

The last day to apply for a ballot by mail (received, not postmarked) is Friday, February 20, 2026. 

The last day of early voting is Friday, February 27, 2026.

The last day to receive a ballot by mail is Tuesday, March 3, 2026 (election day) at 7:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is not postmarked, or Wednesday, March 4, 2026 (next business day after election day) at 5:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is postmarked by 7:00 p.m. at the location of the election on election day (unless overseas or military voter deadlines apply).
