Leonard, Texas -- The Leonard Lady Tigers evened their District 11-3A record at 1-1 with a 14-point win over the S&S Lady Rams.
S&S proved they came to play by jumping out to an 8-0 lead before Leonard's Emma Houser hit a three-point shot to get the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard. Sarah Garvey netted a free throw and Bella Neaville banked in two points, but S&S had a 16-6 advantage as the first quarter ended.
That all changed with an 11-0 run by Leonard in the second period.
Leonard's Riley Brown worked inside for three baskets and knocked down a pair of free throws for a total of eight points in a busy second quarter. Kylie Houser sliced through the lane for a lay-up, Avery Ross hit a free throw and suddenly it was Leonard with a 17-16 lead at the half.
It was more of the same in the third period. Kylie Houser and Emma Houser both drained triples and Kylie Houser also knocked down a deuce. Neaville put up two points in the paint and Micaela Garza's free throw completed a 22-0 run.
After shutting out S&S for two periods, the Lady Tigers took a 28-16 lead into the fourth quarter.
Neaville hit a two-point basket and a triple down the stretch and Garza hit a pair of free throws as Leonard put a 38-24 district win in the books.
Bella Neaville led all scorers with 10 points, Kylie House was only one point off the pace with nine points, Riley Brown knocked down eight points, Emma Houser scored six, Micaela Garza finished with three points, while Sarah Garvey and Avery Ross pitched in one point apiece.
