Bonham, Texas -- Born on December 4, 1935, in Garland, Texas, Bettye was the youngest of nine children born to Joseph Oliver and Elizabeth Wilson. She lived a full and meaningful life marked by faith, humility, and devoted love for her high school sweetheart and husband—and for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Richardson High School in 1954, she briefly attended the University of North Texas and later graduated from the Rutherford-Metropolitan School of Business before beginning her working years at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in Dallas. For most of her adult life, she devoted herself to her home and family, whom she served with selfless devotion.
Her Catholic faith shaped her life from childhood. She raised her five children in the faith and served the Church throughout her life through prayer and quiet acts of devotion, including parish volunteer work, teaching faith formation classes, making rosaries, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and as a member of the Legion of Mary.
Bettye loved travel and lived in Singapore and Italy for a total of ten years. In retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively, both internationally and throughout the United States.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert Lee Holmes; her sons, Patrick Cameron Holmes and Robert Scott Holmes; and her parents and all eight of her siblings. She is survived by her children John Holmes, Amy Holmes, and Beth Holmes Alonzo and her husband, Chris Alonzo; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Holmes; and her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
