Bonham School Board extends superintendent contract

Bonham, Texas -- A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bonham ISD was held on January 12, 2026, in the Bonham ISD Administration Center. Board President Chance Roberts called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. All board members were present except for Myles Galyon and LaTonia Arris. The pledges to the US and Texas flags were led by the second graders from Finley Oates Elementary.

Warrior Talk

Sean Floyd said that the ribbon cutting at L.H. Rather was great. Carlous Gilstrap also said that the ribbon cutting was wonderful. He also expressed appreciation for the gifts and praised the students for being active. “It’s good to be a Bonham Warrior,” he said. Jason Fox also said thank you for the gifts. He also told everyone to go look at the videos from I.W. Evans on Facebook. Chance Roberts echoed what all the others said. There was a great turnout at LHR ribbon cutting and he is looking forward to phase 2 to be done at that campus. He said thank you for all of the gifts, especially the Facebook videos.

Employee and Student Recognition:

Amberly Kelton - Teacher of the Month

Teacher of the Month is Amberly Kelton. She is the Lifeskills teacher at I.W. Evans campus. On January 30, she is organizing a Heros Halftime show at the high school basketball game, which is a joy to watch. Ms. Kelton fosters a strong sense of culture, family and welcoming in her classroom. The kids light up in her classroom.

Paraprofessional of the Month is LaTosha Lucas

Paraprofessional of the Month is LaTosha Lucas. She is always asking what can she do for kids and is always ready to jump into action however needed. She makes the I.W. Evans campus bright and better.

IW Evans Student of the Month is Thea Alcox

I.W. Evans Student of the Month is Thea Alcox. She is a fourth grader who likes to play Minecraft, watch TV and hang out with friends. Favorite thing about I.W. Evans is the hot pancakes and hot syrup. Teachers describe her as a role model, reliable, and a rock star.

Finley Oates Student of the Month is Andrea Simmons-Franklin

Finley-Oates Student of the Month is Andrea Simmons-Franklin. She is a third grader who is very welcoming. Her favorite subject is science and her favorite thing about school is the library. She enjoys playing basketball. Teachers describe her as a student who leads with kindness, encourages others and makes others feel seen.

LH Rather Student of the Month is Leia Deas

L.H. Rather Student of the Month is Leia Deas. She is an 8th grader who is also an office aide. She was described as bringing light to the LHR campus. She is also witty, very inclusive, all around great kid, kind and good natured. Her favorite part of the new building is the library.

BHS Senior of the Month is Aubrey Townsend

BHS Seniors of the Month are Aubrey Townsend and Henrik Hun. Aubrey is tech aide, who also participates in dual credit classes, UIL computer science and AP computer science. She has been at BISD since her freshman year. She likes how supportive the staff is. Future plans include going to Texas Tech and studying marketing and management. Teachers say she is a great student, hard-working, respectful and happy to help others.

BHS Senior of the Month is Henrik Hun

Henrik Hun participates in AP classes, UIL academics, band and theatre. He has attended BISD since first grade. His favorite thing at BHS is the amount of help you can get and all the friendly people. His future plans are studying pre-med at Baylor and eventually becoming a dermatologist. Teachers say he is always positive, kind and has a great work ethic.

AJ Edwards

Special recognition was given to AJ Edwards. She earned reserve champion intermediate showmanship award at the State Fair. Hamlin presented her with a special coin he had made to recognize students and staff for outstanding achievements and noted that this is the first time he is presenting one of these coins at Bonham ISD.

Connor Haggard

Special recognition was also given to three student athletes who earned recognition from the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All State. Conner Haggard earned first team honors for Cross Country. Charlie Thompson was named to the football second team and Bryan Manzanares to the football honorable mention team.

Board approved the Consent Agenda, which included minutes from previous meetings and financial reports.

Dr. Lance Hamlin gave the Superintendent Report. District enrollment is staying steady at 1922. In December, three campus improved their ADA and Hamlin said the district is looking good to accomplish the district attendance goal. L.H. Rather Junior High won the award for attendance for December.

Board approved an Order of Election. The election for two school board positions will be held on May 2.

Board approved the 2026-2027 Bonham ISD School Calendar.

Board approved the Fannin County Head Start Self Assessment.

Board approved the Fannin County Head Start Organizational Chart 2025-2026.

Board approved the Fannin County Head Start Service Plan 2025-2026.

* * * * *

Board approved the 2025 Annual Audit.

* * * * *

Board approved a Construction Contract over $25,000. This is for the L.H. Rather construction project.

The next regular Board Meeting will be Feb 23.

Board went into Executive Session at 6:36 p.m. Pursuant to Texas Government Code section § 551.074, board discussion included personnel matters pertaining to evaluations, duties, terminations, replacements, reassignments, hiring, and additions to the staff.

Pursuant to Government Code 551.083, board discussion included reviewing the Superintendent Contract and conducting the Superintendent Evaluation.
Board came back into Open Session at 8:50 p.m.

Board approved extension of superintendent contract. The room of school administrators and staff erupted in applause.

Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
