Funding available for alcohol-free prom
and graduation celebrations

Paris, Texas -- The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Paris District is encouraging local high schools to apply for remaining Project Celebration funds to help students celebrate safely and alcohol-free during major events like prom and graduation.

Project Celebration is a partnership between educators, parents, and community leaders to reduce impaired driving crashes by providing safe, chemical-free environments for students. Schools hosting an overnight lock-in can receive reimbursable mini-grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 to cover expenses such as supplies, printing, and room rental. The higher levels of funding are available for schools that include approved DWI safety activities like guest speakers or PSA contests.

“Each year, prom and graduation nights bring heartbreaking reminders of the toll impaired driving takes on Texas families.” said Monica Yates, TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist. “Project Celebration gives students a safe, fun alternative while reinforcing the importance of making smart choices. These grants help schools and communities work together to protect our kids during some of the most memorable moments of their lives.”

Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. To qualify, schools must submit an intent form and signed grant agreement. The intent form is due Monday, Jan. 19, 2026.
