Fort Worth, Texas -- A world premiere by a Grammy Award-winning composer along with piano soloist Aaron Kurz anchor the Lone Star Wind Orchestra’s 20th Anniversary Season Celebration concert on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m. at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in the Dallas Arts District (2301 Flora St., Dallas). The milestone performance marks two decades of music-making and community impact while honoring the orchestra’s past and looking boldly toward the future in the spirit of its mission of “music changing lives.”
Led by music director Eugene Migliaro Corporon, the concert brings together the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and the Lone Star Youth Winds under the batons of Corporon and Andrew Trachsel, respectively. Highlights include the attendance of multiple Grammy Award-winning composer Michael Daugherty for the world premiere of the wind band transcription of his work “Last Dance at the Surf,” a centerpiece moment of the orchestra’s 20th anniversary season. Inspired by pop culture icons ranging from Superman to Andy Warhol, Daugherty is among the most frequently performed living American composers.

Also back by popular demand, Dallas-raised and internationally acclaimed pianist Aaron Kurz returns to perform the “Concerto for Piano and Winds” by composer Nancy Galbraith. Known for his charismatic and expressive performances, Kurz, a Greenhill School alumnus, has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Palace of Peace and Harmony in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. His artistry has earned top prizes at competitions such as the New York International Piano Competition and the Los Angeles International Piano Competition.

The Lone Star Youth Winds will present Tyler Grant’s “All the Earth and Air” and the consortium premiere of Kevin Poelking’s “Green Whispers.” Additional selections on the program include “American Overture” by Joseph Willcox Jenkins and “Urban Light” by James David.
The concert culminates with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and Lone Star Youth Winds joining forces for a powerful finale celebrating the next generation of musicians. The program also features a new film by the Dallas nonprofit kNOwBOX Dance presented in the lobby of the Meyerson during intermission.
“Spotlighting our 20th anniversary is both a reflection on where we have been and a statement of where we are headed,” said LSWO co-founder Christopher Tucker. “This concert captures the creativity, collaboration and commitment to youth, education and community that have defined the Lone Star Wind Orchestra since its founding.”
The remaining concert of the 20th anniversary season featuring the Lone Star Wind Orchestra is Lights, Camera … Trumpet on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Concerts solely featuring the Lone Star Youth Winds include American Reverence on Sunday, March 8, 2026, and Soul Serene, A Mother’s Day Celebration on Sunday, May 10, 2026. All three concerts will be held at the Moody Performance Hall, located at 2520 Flora St., Dallas.
