Fannin County, Texas -- It is imperative that area voters understand how pivotal the March 3, 2026 Fannin County Republican Primary will be to the future of Fannin County. If anyone is waiting on the General Election in November to have their say in local politics, it will already be decided by then.
The reason is simple: the only candidates that are running for county offices have filed to run as Republicans. Unless there is a runoff, whichever candidates garner the most votes in the March 3 primary will go on to be sworn in January 1, 2027.
In case no candidate gets a majority of the votes cast, the primary runoff will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
A majority is defined as more than half the votes cast, while a plurality is the largest number of votes, but less than a majority.
Fannin County has five contested races -- county judge, county treasurer, Pct. 2 commissioner, Pct. 4 commissioner, and Pct. 2 JP.
Texas is one of 15 states that have "open primaries" which means a voter does not have to be a registered member of a party to participate in its primary.
