Whitewright, Texas -- James Hamilton Savage passed away on February 24, 2026, in Denison, Texas at the age of 90. He was born to parents, Othel Jefferson Savage and Inez (Jenkins) Savage on April 19, 1935, in Blue Ridge, Texas on James Webb Farm.
James attended school in Blue Ridge and Leonard and then graduated from Bailey High School. He left his family farm in 1954 to honorably serve in the United States Coast Guard for 4 years and the United States Air Force for 4 years. In 1962, James joined the Texas Air National Guard working in the Department of Defense as a civilian. He retired in 1990 after 36 years of service.
James married Billie Jo Cantrell Mohundro on June 15, 1964, in Arlington, Texas. Not only did he receive a loving wife, but he also gained 4 stepchildren. Jo passed away after a stroke on January 23, 1997. James took great care of her until her passing.
James married Mary Halbert Savage on April 10, 1998, and gained two more stepchildren. She later passed on February 28, 2019, from COPD.
James resided in Cross Timber Estates in Denison, Texas. He was an active member of the Shannon Church of Christ in Sherman, Texas. He was baptized July of 1952 into God’s family. His favorite memory was that he and his brother, OJ, shared the same baptism night and the invitation song was “Oh Why Not Tonight.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Othel and Inez Savage; sisters, Bernice, Theresa, Carla, and Brenda; and brothers, OJ, Jerry, and Bobby.
The family will welcome guests to a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 201 West Maple Street, Whitewright, Texas 75491. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation. The burial will be at Burns Cemetery.
