
The second call for art is for the Budding Artist Contest. Children and youth under age 18 are encouraged to enter up to three pieces of artwork for the center’s annual art contest. Artwork will be accepted from March 17 through April 1. For those who need assistance in framing or wiring their artwork to be ready for hanging in the gallery, their artwork is due by March 24. This month, the center’s Main and East Gallery will have a special exhibit, celebrating the life’s work of Ruth Anderson. The center is pleased to present a retrospective collection of 96 year old Ruth Anderson's artwork which includes quilts, baskets, origami jewelry, mixed media constructions and more. Come meet the artist on Sunday, March 8 at the opening of the exhibit, from 2-4 pm. The collection will remain on display until the end of March.
The center has many art classes scheduled for the coming weeks. Brush & Brunch with Jaye will be on March 3 from 11 am to 3 pm. This class includes painting and lunch. Mixed Media and Music will be held on March 19 from 1-3 pm. Kids Crafts for ages 4-9 and Youth Mixed Media for ages 10-17 are held on Tuesday afternoons from 4-5 pm on March 10, 17 and 24. Kids Paint Party with Jaye will be on Saturday, March 28.
Jessie with 3 Little Bird Painting is hosting a paint party on March 24. Artist Get Together will be held on March 27 from 1-3 pm. Sip & Stitch is a free time for fiber artists to bring their current project and enjoy fellowship with others who like to crochet, knit, embroider and create other fiber arts. The next Sip & Stitch is set for March 19 from 6-8 pm. Poetry at the Art Center will be on March 19 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
Kidz Krew theatre classes for kids ages 8 & up will be held on Thursdays in March from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Adult Improv classes will be held on Thursdays from 6-7 pm. Dean Todd will lead an oil painting class on March 27 from 10 am to noon. A basket weaving class will be held on March 5 from 1-4 pm.
Art Camp for Adults will be two full days of art, food and fellowship on March 20 & 21. Spots are limited for this special event. The center is seeking artists, vendors and food trucks for their upcoming Red River Arts Fest, which will be on Saturday, May 2. The center will also be hosting a Plein Air Contest and Auction on May 1 & 2. Head over the center’s website for complete details and registration.
The Creative Arts Center is a nonprofit organization started in 2001. The center is located at 200 W 5th in Bonham. The center is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to noon.
