McKinney, Texas -- The City of McKinney’s Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce that Finch Park has been named a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS), one of the highest honors bestowed on a park in the state of Texas.

Finch Park received the award during the TRAPS Annual Institute and Expo, held Feb. 10–13, in Corpus Christi. The Lone Star Legacy Park designation recognizes parks that hold special prominence in their communities and across Texas.

“This designation reflects the generations of residents who have loved this park, cared for it and helped it evolve. We are honored to see Finch Park recognized as a legacy not just for McKinney, but for the entire state of Texas,” said Parks and Recreation Director Amy Kinkade.

Named after Henry A. Finch, McKinney’s mayor from 1913 to 1921, Finch Park was the first park owned by the City of McKinney. Throughout its history, Finch Park has been home to landmarks and features such as the Collin McKinney Cabin, a zoo, an outdoor swimming pool, decorative fountains and even a tourist camp.

Today, shaded trails wind through the park, linking updated amenities with reminders of its rich past. Finch Park is also the home of the citywide Juneteenth celebration, which will take place this year on Saturday, June 13. While Finch Park celebrates more than 100 years of community life, the City of McKinney remains committed to preserving its character while enhancing it for future generations.
