Fannin County, Texas -- Fannin County residents will now need to show stronger proof of identification when registering or renewing a vehicle under updated rules from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

The new requirements, introduced by Texas lawmakers, are aimed at preventing fraud and curbing illegal immigration. Officials say the changes are designed to ensure that only individuals with legal status can complete certain vehicle title and registration transactions.

Under the updated rules, customers must present valid, unexpired identification that proves legal status.

Accepted forms of identification include:

  • A valid Texas driver’s license
  • A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID
  • A U.S. passport or passport card
  • A foreign passport with a valid Permanent Resident Card (green card) or an unexpired immigrant visa
  • A Texas license to carry a handgun

The changes are intended to strengthen safeguards in the vehicle registration process and protect Texans from fraud.

Officials encourage residents to review the new identification requirements before visiting a county office to avoid delays.

For more information, residents can visit the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website or contact the Fannin County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office directly.
